Alessandro Gualtieri
Alessandro Gualtieri is an Italian perfumer known for his avant-garde approach to fragrance creation. He learned perfumery by combining formal studies in Germany and outside lessons from an Italian expat he met in a bar. He built a significant reputation working with major fashion brands such as Fendi, Versace, Helmut Lang, and Diesel before founding his own perfume line, Nasomatto, in Amsterdam.
What sets Gualtieri apart from other perfumers is his refusal to release the ingredient lists for his fragrances. Instead, he opts to describe the inspiration behind each scent, allowing the line to first communicate the creative essence of each fragrance, leaving the actual notes for the user to contemplate over time.
Some of Gualtieri's most notable fragrances include Duro, which is his interpretation of masculinity and aims to enhance all manifestations of strength. Another popular fragrance is Black Afgano, which is inspired by hashish and known for its smoky and earthy scent.
In addition to his work with Nasomatto, Gualtieri also founded Orto Parisi, a line that explores the animalistic side of humanity. He also founded Maria Lux with his wife.
Overall, Gualtieri's unique approach to perfumery has earned him a loyal following and established him as one of the most creative and daring noses in the industry.
