Alberto Morillas
Alberto Morillas is a prestigious Spanish perfumer who has created some of the most emblematic fragrances in the world. Born in 1950 in Seville, Spain, Morillas began working in perfumery at age 20, after being inspired by a Vogue article about French perfumer Jean-Paul Guerlain.
In 1970, Morillas joined the Swiss fragrance and aroma firm Firmenich. Since then, he has been involved in the creation of almost 7,000 perfumes for the company, including the iconic Calvin Klein CK One , Giorgio Armani Acqua di Giò , Kenzo Flower , Bvlgari Omnia , Cartier Panthere de Cartier and Marc Jacobs Daisy .
Morillas is also the founder of his independent line Mizensir, which started with scented candles and has since expanded to include 17 perfumes. In collaboration with Penhaligon's, Morillas also has a bespoke perfumery service called Bespoke by Alberto Morillas, based in the Salon de Parfum of Harrods department store in London.
Morillas is passionate about the Mediterranean and has a special attachment to the aroma of citrus, marine notes and flowers such as jasmine, tuberose, neroli and orange blossom. He is also inspired by gardens, and spends a lot of time in his family's garden in Geneva.
"Perfumery is the mirror of society. I am the artist who interprets those emotions," he says.
Morillas declares that creating a fragrance is an art, a very personal and creative exercise. He often works on more than twenty different fragrances at a time and has described the importance of training the sense of smell and creating a "scent bank" to better appreciate fragrances.
