If Andy Tauer's masterpiece, L'Air du Desert Marocain, evokes the open spaces of a boundless desert sky that rushes overhead, then Au Coeur du Desert is his quietly beating heart tied to the earth. Though it shares the same dry crunch of cedar and resin with its predecessor, Au Coeur is a much more intimate affair, with a melting smoothness that envelops rather than exalts.
To achieve this metamorphosis, he uses higher concentrations of the key ingredients that gave L'Air du Desert Marocain its soul, generating a softer quality of patchouli, warmer woods and a higher dose of ambergris, its salty golden warmth throwing off all the other notes in marked relief. Texture wise, Au Coeur is a dense silk vs. L'Air.
Lovers of L'Air du Desert Marocain will be relieved to find clear echoes in Au Coeur, but those who found the original too dramatic will be delighted to find a version built on a more human scale.
