Occasions when you shouldn't wear perfume

Ocasiones en las que no deberías usar perfume - Parfumerie d'Aquitaine

Perfume is a very important tool that expresses personality, is capable of evoking emotions, awakening memories, and marking our presence. However, we believe there are times and places where its use may not be appropriate. Below, we share some occasions when it's best to skip your favorite fragrance.

1. Funerals and wakes

Funerals and wakes are moments of reflection and respect, where attention should be focused on remembering the deceased. A strong or striking perfume can be inappropriate and even intrusive for those who are grieving. In these cases, it is preferable to opt for discretion and avoid any scent that might clash with the solemnity of the moment.

2. Medical procedures and hospital visits

Hospitals and clinics are full of patients who may have olfactory sensitivities or respiratory conditions that are aggravated by certain smells. In addition, many healthcare professionals prefer a neutral environment to avoid interference with their work. If you have a medical appointment, are visiting a hospitalized loved one, or have a scheduled procedure, it is most considerate to go without perfume.

3. Surgeries and surgical procedures

Before surgery, it is recommended to avoid the use of perfumes, scented creams, or any other aromatic product. This is because some components can interfere with medical equipment or even make it difficult for the surgical team to evaluate the patient. In addition, anesthesiologists need a fragrance-free environment to detect any changes in the patient's condition.

4. Public transport and enclosed spaces

In places like the subway, buses, airplanes, or elevators, where proximity between people is inevitable, it is advisable to avoid using intense perfumes. Some people may be sensitive or allergic to certain fragrances, which could cause them discomfort. Furthermore, in confined spaces, a strong scent can be overwhelming for those around us.

5. Sporting events and gyms

During physical activity, an increase in body temperature can intensify the scent of perfume, which could be intrusive to others. Moreover, the mix of sweat and fragrance doesn't always produce a pleasant result. It is preferable to use clean, mild fragrances or neutral deodorants.

6. During pregnancy

Pregnant women can develop increased sensitivity to smells, and certain perfumes could cause them nausea or dizziness. If you are pregnant or frequently interact with someone who is, consider reducing or avoiding the use of strong fragrances.

9. Perfume testing

If you are going to a perfume boutique or a fragrance launch event, it is best to go without perfume to better appreciate the scents you want to try. Wearing a fragrance can alter your olfactory perception and make it difficult to choose a new essence.

Consideration and respect through scent

Perfume is an extension of our personality, but it should also be used with consideration for others. In certain circumstances, it is better to use mild, non-invasive perfumes. In others, the best decision is to forgo them and opt for a subtle and respectful presence. Knowing when and where to apply it demonstrates not only good taste, but also empathy and sensitivity towards those around us.

At Parfumerie d'Aquitaine, we celebrate the art of perfumery and its power to evoke emotions, but we also understand the importance of using them at the right time.
