Floris London: Three Centuries of Art, Nobility and Perfume

Floris London: Tres Siglos de Arte, Nobleza y Perfume - Parfumerie d'Aquitaine

In the heart of St. James's, London, a place where history and distinction go hand in hand, a perfume house stands as a silent witness to the passage of time and the art of perfumery: Floris London.

A story written in golden ink since 1730

Founded by Juan Famenias Floris, a Menorcan immigrant, Floris was born from a desire to bring the Mediterranean air to London: clean, elegant, and sunny. What began as a barbershop and artisanal perfumery soon captured the attention of London's high society, winning over both distinguished gentlemen and ladies of refined spirit.

89 Jermyn Street, still the headquarters of the house, has seen almost three centuries of history pass by, without ever losing its essence or its style.

The only perfume house with a royal appointment

Floris London's relationship with the British Crown is as illustrious as its history itself. In 1820, His Majesty King George IV granted the maison its first Royal Warrant. This recognition marked the beginning of a lasting and honorable relationship with the royal family, which cemented Floris's position as Britain's oldest perfume house.

In 1840, Floris had the privilege of creating Bouquet de La Reine, a luminous floral fragrance, used by Queen Victoria on her wedding day to Prince Albert.

Following this tradition, in 2002, Floris paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee with a modern reinvention of Bouquet de La Reine: an interpretation true to its original spirit, but adapted to the timeless elegance of the monarch and her five decades of exemplary service.

In 2022, to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee and the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's reign, Floris introduced Platinum 22, a refined fragrance that celebrates her legacy with nobility and distinction.

More recently, in 2023, Floris was once again honored with a new Royal Warrant granted by His Majesty King Charles III. This appointment reaffirms Floris' commitment to craftsmanship, heritage, and quality.

Among his admirers are also names that marked eras: Florence Nightingale, Winston Churchill, Marilyn Monroe and Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, who even gave agent 007 a Floris fragrance: No. 89, as part of his literary signature.

Craftsmanship mastery: a symphony between art and science

Creating a Floris fragrance is a meticulous and silent endeavor, a symphony that seeks the perfect balance between art and science. This elegance is born of experience, not artifice.

Made in Great Britain, Floris fragrances use the finest essential oils and essences, collected from all over the world.

For nine generations , this expertise has been passed down as a precious legacy, shaping a unique perfumery heritage. In its historical archive, Floris preserves some of its oldest handwritten formulas, authentic 18th-century treasures that continue to guide the spirit of the house.

Perfumed with heritage and soul

Today, the Floris family remains at the helm of the house, preserving the original formulas from their historical archives, some handwritten since the 18th century. Each fragrance is crafted in England with precision and patience, blending classic ingredients with a modern sensibility. At Floris, there is no rush: there is only legacy.

Among his most celebrated creations are No. 89, a men's fragrance with lavender, neroli, and cedar that embodies English elegance; and Chypress, a modern floral with a sophisticated amber base. Each perfume tells a story and pays homage to a time when perfuming oneself was a personal, almost ceremonial art.
