How to use perfume: How to store perfumes

Perfumes en orden

Now that you've learned how to wear perfume in the best way, it's time to learn how to store these precious liquids.

Contrary to the popular opinion that perfumes expire after 2 to 5 years, this statement couldn't be further from the truth.

Although some lighter citrus fragrances can oxidize over time and lose some of their more volatile notes, if stored properly, perfumes with stronger notes can last more than 50 years.

These are our tips to slow down the deterioration process as much as possible.

1. Store the perfume in a dark and dry place with a constant temperature

Perfumes are made from scented oils in a mixture of ethanol and water, which makes their composition very volatile.

Therefore, they do not like temperature fluctuations and places such as wet bathrooms and basements should be avoided to prolong their lifespan.

Humidity, water and sunlight break down perfume and directly affect its freshness.

So store your perfumes in a dark and dry place, avoid natural or artificial light and place them in a place with a constant temperature, such as drawers, which are an ideal place to store perfumes.

As an extra security measure, we recommend storing fragrances in their original boxes to make your life easier.

2. Keep the original cover

Keeping your fragrance without the original cap will cause natural oxidation to be greater than it would otherwise be.

Those who like to buy testers sometimes receive perfumes in plain boxes without the lid, which could eventually result in this type of fluctuations.

Always keep the lid on so that the perfume oxidizes as little as possible. This way, the perfume will last longer.

3. Store them in a wine refrigerator

The question of whether perfumes should be stored in a wine cellar or a refrigerator is highly debated in the perfume community.

If they are kept at a constant low temperature, nothing will happen to them and their delicate chemical balance will not be spoiled. The problem arises if they are kept like this and suddenly the refrigerator stops working, which could deteriorate the composition.

4. Avoid shaking the perfume bottle

While it may seem like a good idea to give the perfume bottle a little "shake" from time to time to "activate the scent", unfortunately, it does just the opposite.

As we have learned in a couple of previous paragraphs, oxygen is not a friend of perfume. So, to minimize air exposure, don't give your perfume additional oxidation through the bubbles.

Therefore, it is best to shake the bottles as little as possible, and keep the perfume fresh for as long as possible.

5. Limit the physical space for perfumes

Not only will you have your perfumes well organized this way, but you will also save a lot of money.

Using this technique, you will always have your perfumes in the same place, well stored, and you will know if you should buy another fragrance before finishing another.

A small shelf will do.

Conclusion

These are the ways in which you can store your perfumes so that they remain in good condition for as long as possible, tell us what ways you use for this purpose.
